Shimla, Oct 20 (UNI) As many as 37 hostels would be constructed across the state for students of SC/ST/OBC categories, Himachal Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Sarveen Chaudhary today said.
Under the "Chhatrawas Yojna" Rs 49.93 crore had been sanctioned to construct 37 hostels, she said adding that 18 hostels had been already constructed under the scheme so far.
Under the scheme, 15 hostels for SC boys and 17 hostels for girls of SC category and 2 hostels for OBC boys and 3 hostels for girls belonging to OBC category are being constructed across the state.
The Minister said that the central government had started Babu Jagjeevan Ram Scholarship Scheme from January 1, 2008 for SC girl students and added that Rs 13.47 crore were proposed to be spent upon construction of 8 hostels during the current financial year in the state.
She said that proposal for constructing hostels at Mashobra, Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Agriculture University, Palampur for 100 SC girl students, for 91 SC girl students and 91 SC boys at Nauni University and 60 SC girl students at HP University had been sent to the Central Government for approval.
Ms Chaudhary said that proposal for constructing hostels at Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Agriculture University, Palampur for 100 OBC boys and for 100 boys and 100 girls of OBC category at Nauni University had been sent to the Central Government for approval.
She said that another hostel for facilitating 105 students of SC category was being constructed at Government College Hamirpur at a cost of Rs 1.66 crore.
