Mumbai, Oct 20 (UNI) The eagerly awaited Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) started on a high and glittering note as Delhi based designers Nikhil and Shantanu teamed up with the Gitanjali Group to present a glorious Spring/Summer '09 collection here yesterday.
With red, black and grey as the main theme, the duo opened the show with a stunning rouched red halter gown with antique silver chains and medallions and then scored with an impressive collection.
Sensuous floor length coats with silver zardosi insets to black sari drape gowns, frills and ruffles on hemlines, dresses and on the necklines that gave a totally flamboyant look that revealed Spanish flavour in the creations.
Outstanding were the black Lurex mini with red ruffled cummerbund, a beautiful red sari with simple red and grey edging, a red will-power gown with black sash and a black rouched gown with red shaded bodice.
The anticipated Men's wear was opulent with black sherwanis and Jodhpuri jackets splashed with ornate prints and red shading with detailing on shoulders and sleeves. Accessories of antique silver chains and necklaces were strategically placed for both men's and women's garments to give the final impact.
If tonight's show is a hint of things to come, one can expect an extravagant and sensuous week from the 75 participating designers.
