Dimapur businessman's body recovered in Assam
Kohima, Oct 20 (UNI) The body of a Dimapur-based businessman, who was abducted from his residence at Lhumthi Colony on Thursday by five unidentified gunmen, was recovered from a tea garden on the Assam side.
Official sources here today said one Prasenjit Dhar (44) was abducted by five armed persons, including three non-locals, and taken to some unidentified destination.
Later, the abductors demanded Rs two crore as ransom and when the family members expressed inability to pay such a huge amount, they reduced it to Rs one crore and subsequently to Rs 50 lakh.
Search operations and raids were conducted by Dimapur police in several places to rescue Prasenjit, but the police failed to trace him.
Meanwhile, the Assam police from Khatkhati yesterday informed Dimapur police that the body of the businessman was found at Lengri Tea Estate under Bor Lengri in Karbi Anglong district of Assam.
Later, Nagaland police arrived at the spot and and brought the body to Dimapur. It was suspected that the businessman was murdered somewhere else and his body was dumped at that place.
Meanwhile, the panic-stricken business community of Dimapur convened a meeting last night and decided to down their shutters till noon today in protest against the incident.
They also decided to meet the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur this morning to discuss about the security of the business community.
