Attack on North Indians in Mumbai unconstitutional: Cong
New Delhi, Oct 20 (UNI) The Congress today strongly condemned the ''senseless'' and ''meaningless'' attack by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists on north Indian railway aspirants in Mumbai, and asked the Vilasrao Deshmukh Government to bring the guilty to book and see to it that such attacks were not repeated.
''Such attacks militate against the spirit of the Constitution to work freely anywhere in the country,'' Congress spokesperson Jayanti Natarajan told reporters.
Terming the attack ''an act of ignorance'', she said the railway recruitment centres were allotted to candidates through the all India service, and recruitment depended on the success in the examination.
''It was an attack not only on the social fabric of the Mumbai and Maharashtra but also on the unity and integrity of the country, and every step should be taken by the State Government under criminal law to punish the guilty,'' she said.
