TN: 100 pc birth and death registration required

Coimbatore, Oct 20: At a coordination meeting held to review birth and death registration, District Revenue Officer S Prabhakaran stressed 100 per cent registration by district administration of Revenue Department and local bodies, and wanted all possible measures taken to ensure this.

Sources said that Prabhakaran wanted police officials investigating deaths due to accidents, murders and suicide to report these to the registration officials.

It had also been announced in the Assembly that Village Administrative Officers, Executive Officers of town panchayats and Sanitary Officers of municipalities should issue birth certificates free of cost.

Steps had been taken to provide adequate number of the certificates to Tahsildars, Municipal Commissioners and Executive Officers of town panchayats.
