Kolkata, Oct 19 (UNI) Winless string continued to haunt both former champions Mohun Bagan and debutant Mohammedan Sporting as they settled for a 1-1 draw in round IV of the ONGC I-Leauge at YBK here today.

Both sides had so far collected two points from four matches each and stood at bottom of the twelve-team table.

The match rose to dizzy heights and both made attacks and counter attacks and opened chances galore.

In one of such counter attacks, Md Sporting fired the first salvo in the third minute through unheralded Gopal Thakur. Theodore Sunday was the chief architect behind the goal.

He dodged past Peter Odafe and Anand Vasan after being fed by Mike Okoro from mid-field and advanced the ball to unmarked Thakur, who made no mistake to shot home (1-0).

Conceding an early goal, Mohun Bagan started launching a volley of attacks to restore parity and one such paid dividend when Jose Barreto levelled the score by a splendid rightfooter in the 20th minute of the match (1-1).

Capitalising on a measured pass from nippy Shylo Malsawmtluanga from right flank, the Brazilian held the ball into air and shot home before dropping to beat Tharangachan Thugshand, a reserve goalie playing in absence of Nasim Akhtar.

Md Sporting utilised Anit Ghosh and Madhav Das of Peerless after getting them signed on Friday to bolster defence line and it proved successful. The two with Bijoy Das stood firm to repulse attacks from Barreto and Shylo.

The black and white drew 1-1 in the opener against Air India at home and got thrashed 0-3 by Sporting Clube de Goa and 0-2 by JCT.

Theodore made some incisive forays into Bagan defence to give second time lead but Shilton Paul, also a reserve Bagan goalie, stood firm.

The winless I-League after the fourth round put futher pressure on the two big clubs of the city.

Bagan with a defeat at the hands of Mumbai FC 1-2 drew 1-1 with Air India and lost to Sporting Clube 0-2.
