Kendrapara, Oct 19 (UNI) Taking break from the tradition, the Laxmi Puja pandals here highlighted current social issues faced by the common people.
'' Our objective is to give a true picture of the prevailing issues in the society '', said an organiser.
Most of the organisers have decorated their puja pandals with scenes that represent the miseries of the people affected by the recent flood, law and order situation in the aftermath of the killing of Swami Laxamananda Sarswati, blue CDs racket, smoking in public places and to create awareness about Rs 2 kg rice scheme recently launcehd by the state government for the the poors.
The puja organizers at Duhuria have given a vivid picture of flood scenario in Kendrapara district and the miserie of the locals devastated by the last month flood by erecting earthen idols on the mandap.
The main reason of depicting the flood and related corruption is to give a vivid picture of it to people who were not present during the devastation, said one of the organisers.
Besides, issues like alcoholism, one of the major problem in the area was also depicted. The earthen idols depict the fear psychosis of an alcoholic family in a humourous manner.
'' The objective is to give a message to people to say no to alcohol'', said a puja organizer.
Similarly the puja organisers at Bhootanath club in Bhagabanpur have tried to depict the aftermath of the blue CD scam involving a college girl in Cuttack. The girl committed suicide after she came to know that her boy friend made CDs of their intimate moments and sold it in the market.
