Hyderabad, Oct 19: Former Indian President A P J Abdul Kalam will inaugurate the four-day inaugural World Congress on Disaster Management in the city from October 21.
Talking to newspersons here, Steering Committee Chairman and Chief Controller DRDO Ministry of Defence, Prahlada said about 300 experts and scientists, including 85 delegates from fifty foreign countries were attending the Congress being held for the first time in the country.
Dr Prahlada said fifteen plenary talks and 15 technical sessions would be conducted during the Congress and its recommendations would be submitted to the Union Government and the State Government to initiate measures on disaster management.
He said India had a 8000 kms coastline and the country was prone to various disasters, including floods, cyclones, tsunamies and droughts and the density of population was very high in the country than European countries.
Dr Prahlada said the standard of eudcation was below par in rural areas and the country should focus on disaster management to protect the lives of people during natural calamities.
He said the themes of the World Congress included water and climate-related disasters, Geological, Chemical, Environmental, Industrial, Nuclear, Terror, Biological, Accident and health disasters. The experts and scientists would exchange their views and experiences in the Congress, he added.
