Goa promulgates Sec 144 CrPc for Mandir Suraksha Samiti Bandh

Panaji, Oct 19 (UNI) The South Goa administration has promulgated section 144 of the CrPc in the district in view of the ''Bandh'' call tomorrow by Akhil Goa Mandir Suraksha Samiti against the recent incidents of temple vandalisation in the state.

The law, which prohibits processions, demonstrations, ''Bandh'', strikes, ''Rasta Roko'', forcible closure of shops, establishment and market and holding public meeting, will remain in force from 0600 hrs to 1800 hrs tomorrow, district collector G P Naik told UNI.

The section would also be in force in North Goa, district collector R Mihir Vardhan told UNI.

South Goa Superintendent of Police Allen D'Sa said police is geared up and would take control of any difficult situation.

Meanwhile, the state government has appealed to the people to thwart the evil designs of subversive elements and remain vigilant and not to support the illegal ''Bandh'', held to be unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. The government will take appropriate actions against the promoters of such ''Bandh''.

It said the State will take possible measures to ensure that normal life is not affected, adding, the state government is committed to protect all the places of worship and strong actions would be initiated against anti-social elements.
