Pune, Oct.19 : Participants from different parts of the country as well as world, who converged here for the week-long Commonwealth Youth Games at Pune, recently had a special session with noted Yoga Guru Ramdev here.
Baba Ramdev during the session taught them the basics of ancient Indian science Yoga for psycho-physical fitness to the young sportspersons.
Ramdev demonstrated various Asanas (postures and exercises) which included having a proper control on one's breathing patterns. He performed Pranayama, Kapalbhati, and Bhastrika like exercises to help them have a good health as well as peace of mind.
"In our normal breathing pattern we intake 400 to 500 millilitres of oxygen, but if we breath deeply, we intake almost eight to 10 kilograms of oxygen. If we breathe deeply, our energy level will boost by 10 to 20 times. To increase the energy level, concentration is needed," said Baba Ramdev.
Also present on the occasion was, Commonwealth Youth Games Organising Committee and Indian Olympic Association President Suresh Kalmadi.
"Baba Ramdev has given us a new direction. His teachings have enlightened our mind and soul. The participants have gained a new strength after meeting him," said Kalmadi said.
Baba Ramdev on this occasion also taught the sportsperson about the importance of Yoga and nationalism.
"I just had my first Yoga experience and it was good I am feeling more rejuvenated and better now," said one participant I found this session really enthusiastic and pleasing. It helped me in relaxing and I am feeling more energetic now," said one foreign participant.
The Commonwealth Youth Games witnessed around 2,000 participants from 71 countries. The games were held between October 12 to 18 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Stadium of Pune. By Shivaji
