Puducherry, Oct 18: A large number of Meenavar Viduthalai Vengaigal volunteers were today arrested when they attempted a ''rail roko'' to condemn the killing of Eelam Tamils in Sri Lanka.
The agitation was also to condemn the attack on Tamil fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy and seek the intervention of the Union Government to find an amicable settlement to the problems in the island nation.
Led by its Founder-leader Mangayarkkarasan,the volunteers took out a procession from the Singaravelar Statue to the AFT Railway Gate where the police arrested them.
Meanwhile, the ''Anaithu Tamizh Inamana Nenjangal'' today observed a fast in front of the Ariyankuppam Commune panchayat office for the same cause.
Puducherry DMK Convenor R V Janakiraman in a statement said the DMK cadre from here would take part in the human chain in Chennai on October 21, being organised by Party Leader and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.
The DMK cadre from Puducherry would leave for Chennai in several vehicles on the morning of October 21.
