Plant Hopper attack paddy in Haryana
Chandigarh, Oct 18 (UNI) The Haryana Agriculture Department has confirmed the attack of White Backed Plant Hopper(WBPH) in certain pockets in the paddy growing areas of the state.
Director Agriculture R R Jowel said here today the dwarf paddy varieties had already been harvested but basmati which was still standing in the fields had been affected by this pest.
He advised the farmers to apply 10 kg Carbaryl or Methyl Parathion mixed with dust. Farmers may also spray 400 gm Carbaryl or 350 ml Endosulfan 250 ml Monocrotophos or 125 ml Dichlorovos by mixing it with 200 litre water per acre.
Farmers can also apply 250 ml Dichlorvos mixed in 1.5 litre water and 20 kg sand per acre. Spray of 500 ml Fenobucarb in 200 litre water per acre has also been found effective in controlling the plant hopper.
He advised the farmers to apply the pesticides specifically on the lower parts of the plant since this pest attacks the stem of the plant.
He said infection of Blast has also been reported from certain areas and therefore, farmers were advised to spray the crop with 200 gm Carbendazin or 200 ml Hinosan or 120 gm Beem by mixing it with 200 litre water per acre.
