NZ Inter-Varsity Football Tournament begins

Patiala, Oct 18 (UNI) In the North Zone Inter-Varsity Football tournament played here today on the campus of Punjabi University, six matches were played and most of the matches were one-sided.

Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar defeated Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla by 7-0. The scorers for GNDU were Vikas (2), Mohinder Singh (2) Dalbir Singh, Dilshad Ahmed and Mandeep Singh 1 goal each.

In the second match, HNB University, Garhwal, defeated UCCS University, Meerut by 5-1. The scorers for HNB University were Tarun Answal (2) Nikang Answal (2). For UCCS University, V Prashar scored the lone goal.

In another match, Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, thrashed Guru Jambeshwar University, Hissar by 6-0. The scorers for Punjab Engineering College were Yuvraj Tomar (2), Salil Aggarwal (2) and Abhimanyu and Varun Kashyap scored a goal each.

In the fourth match between Lucknow University and CSJM University, Kanpur, the former won the match by 8-3. Ankit Kumar of Lucknow University was just brilliant as he scored half a dozen goals in great style.

MJPR University, Bareilly won 1-0 against Jammu University in a lackluster match. Sushan scored the lone goal for MJPR University.

In yet another one-sided match, Kumaon University, Naini Tal, defeated Bundelkhand University, Jhansi, 4-0. For Kumaon University, Chander Singh, Neeraj, Manoj and Mohinder scored a goal each.
