Varanasi, Oct 18 (UNI) Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishan Advani today said no candidate with a criminal background would be fielded by his party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing the 'Vijay Sankalp Rally', Mr Advani said in the near future, only the government which could stand against crime and terrorism would survive.
He said people were fed up with false promises and wanted a government who could uproot the rising menace from the country.
BJP is the only party which could throw out terrorists and their modules from the country.
''We want to give fair and just regime to the people of this country,'' he said adding earlier few people of criminal background were in politics, but in the present senario criminals were holding prime slots in the Cabinet.
He said in UPA government there were several ministers who were not only criminals, but had many cases of heinous nature pending against them.
No candidate of criminal background would be given ticket from the BJP and people only with fair and clean image would be allowed to contest the LS polls on BJP ticket, Mr Advani maintained.
Focusing upon several developmental issues, the BJP leader said the country's economic condition had even deteriorated from what it was at Britisher's reign and the government's wrong policies were solely responsible for the dismissal state of the country.
He said farmers and youth were committing suicides, unemployment was at its peak, cultural values were deteriorating, terrorists were being portrayed as ''innocent'' and martyrs like the policemen who sacrificed their lives in Jamia Nagar, New Delhi-encounter were under suspicion.
If BJP resumed power at the Centre, terrorism would be uprooted on priority basis and they would make the nation economically strong, he asserted.
