Tipu Sultan descendant accorded red carpet welcome
Mysore, Oct 17 (UNI) A red carpet reception was accorded to Shahibzada Anwar Ali Shah, the sixth descendant of Tipu Sultan, who ruled Mysore Kingdom at Gnajam near Srirangpatana, in Mandya district, today.
It was a touching reunion for him with the soil ruled by his ancestors over two centuries ago.
Admirers of Tipu Sultan, local residents, tourists, political leaders and office bearers of Karnataka State Wakf Board welcomed him at the Gumbad, at Ganjam, where the tombs of his ancestors are located.
Mr Shah is in Karnataka in connection with the mass marriage ceremony of poor muslims being organised by Health and Family Welfare Minister B Sriramalu in Bellary tomorrow.
Shah was accompanied by Aqiauque Azam, Trustee, Prince Ghulam Mohammed Wakf Estate, Kolkata (Prince Ghulam Mohd was the youngest son of Tipu) and Khalid Ahmed, Chairman Karnataka State Wakf Board.
After the death of Tipu Sultan, the British brought his children to Kolkata, fearing revolt in Srirangapatana and made arrangements for their stay there.
Mr Shah was the centre of attraction. Tourists mobbed him out of curiosity, as he arrived, and jostled with each other to have a glimpse of him. Later, he interacted with the people.
He offered prayers at the mosque in the premises of the Gumbad and paid respects to the tombs of Hyder Ali, Tipu Sultan and other ancestors.
