Relatives assault doctors after death of a boy

Kendrapra, Oct 17 (UNI) Tension prevailed at Rajnagar since last night after the death of a 14-year old boy in the Rajanagar Public Health Centre allegedly due to wrong diagnosis and negligence of the doctors.

Some irate relatives of the deceased boy along with some locals allegedly assaulted the doctors last night. They also staged road blockade by laying the dead body on the road at Gopalpur under Rajnagar police station, said Officer-in-Charge of Rajnagar Police station Subash Panda.

According to police Abhaya Kumar Roul(14) of Badaolara village was suffering from fever. Dr K C Mishra, a paediatric doctor of the PHC allegedly treated him for typhoid. But later a medicine specialist diagonised that he was suffering from cerebral malaria and advised his relatives to take him to SCB Medical college and Hospital Cuttack after his condition deteriorated.

The boy died while being taken to Cuttack.

Later the relatives of the boy assaulted the doctors and blocked the road and demanded compensation to the family members of the deceased.

The blockade was removed this afternoon after the intervention of the Chief District Medical Officers and other senior officials.

The CDMO assured to order a departmental inquiry and take action if the doctors were found guilty.

Three cases were registered in connection with the incident while two cases were filed by both the parties and a case was filed for illegal road blockade.
