Hisar, Oct 17 (uni) In a grand, most disciplined and enthusing function, President Pratibha Devisingh Patil presented the ''Standard'' to 46 Armoured Regiment at the military station here today.
For the regiment it was a historical moment, as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces praised the regiment for its high performance, valour and magnificence.
She lauded the sacrifice, dedication and dutifulness of the soldiers of the Regiment and released the regimental colour. On the occasion, 34 tanks displayed the skill of the mounted force.
Haryana Governor A R Kidwai, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor, South Western Command GOC-in-C Lt General C K S Sabu, GOC, Commander of 46 Armoured Lt General Pradeep Khanna, Congress MP Jai Prakash, Chief Secretary Dharam Vir and Vice-Chancellor GJ University Lt General (retd)Devendra Dayal Singh Sandhu were also present at the function.
It was a crucial day for women, especially working women as they had to remain empty stomach due to Karva Chauth fast, while running hither and thither in connection with the function. The women distanced themselves from the refreshment tent.
The waiters' tray carried a warning for the women, ''May We Remind you that It is Karva Chauth today ''. Additional Deputy Commissioner Ashima Brar and many other women on duty would remember this day for long, but with pride and honour.
Since its Raising Day on July 1,1982 the Regiment has been rendering meritorious services to the nation, consistent with the highest and glorious traditions of Indian army.
The mounted parade of 34 tanks was the momentous and inspiring event of the day. This parade was commanded by Col Sanjay Bhatia, Commandant of the Regiment. The regiment has a great history of honours and awards.
