Outer space 'smells like fried steak'
London, Oct 17 : Outer space smells like hot metal, fried steak and the welding of a motorbike, according to NASA experts.
The bizarre scents were reported after astronauts from space walks.
NASA has commissioned Steven Pearce of British fragrance firm Omega Ingredients to recreate the smells in a laboratory in a bid to help astronauts prepare for their missions.
"When astronauts were de-suiting and taking off helmets, they all reported quite particular odours," the Sun quoted him, as saying.
"We have already produced the smell of fried steak, but hot metal is more difficult.
"We think it's a high energy vibration in the molecule and that's what we're trying to add to it now," he added.
Pearce told pupils at Moorside High School, Manchester, he hoped the smells would be ready this year.
