NABARD releases Rs 117.89 cr relief scheme to farmers

Ahmedabad, Oct 17 (UNI) National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) today said an amount of Rs 117.89 crore has been released to banks in Gujarat under Agriculture Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme.

A NABARD release said as part of the implementation of the scheme, the Central Government had released the first tranche amounting to Rs 117.89 crore. This would infuse the much-needed liquidity into cooperative system, thus directly benefiting the small and marginal farmers to meet their Rabi season requirements.

The Central Government had announced the scheme of Debt Waiver and Debt Relief to support the farmers in the country, who were facing problems with viability of farming.

All agricultural loans distributed by scheduled commercial banks, regional rural banks and cooperative credit institutions upto March 31, 2007, and overdue as on December 31, 2007, were covered under the scheme, the release added.
