MP refuses to join Indian delegation to UN over Advani escort issue
New Delhi, Oct 17 (UNI) Protesting over the reported withdrawal of two Muslim drivers by the NSG from the escort of BJP leader L K Advani, RJD Member of the Rajya Sabha Prof Jabir Husain today refused to join the India Delegation to the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly beginning in New York from October 26.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Prof Husain said, ''It is not an isolated incident, it speaks a lot about what is going on in the corridors of the concerned Ministry and also about the mindset working in the context of the minorities in this country.'' He urged the Prime Minister to nominate someone else ''worth of a truer faith''.
''The
situation,
I
am
pained
to
emphasise,
is
neither
ambiguous
nor
subtle.
It
is
too
much
obvious
and
brazen.
The
incident
has
caused
a
deep
shock
to
me.''
Prof
Husain
said
he
was
shocked
to
read
reports
that
''the
two
police
drivers,
who
were
earlier
trained
for
the
assignment,
were
not
only
dropped
from
the
security
team,
but
also
ordered
to
leave
the
venue
of
the
meeting...
the
only
reason
they
were
not
considered
safe
for
VIP
duty
was
their
religious
identity.''
