Mohali, Oct 17 (UNI) After becoming the highest run scorer in Test cricket, Sachin Tendulkar today made it abundantly clear that retirement is the last thing in his mind saying ''I will keep on playing as long as I enjoy the game''.
Talking to mediapersons here, Sachin was very emphatic that the question of quitting the game has not crossed his mind. ''I am feeling good and I will continue''.
About his setting a new world record, Sachin said,''I am happy for that but let me tell you, it just is not my record but it is India's record. I am happy that an Indian has achieved it.'' ''It was my proudest moment and as I crossed the mark I looked up to thank the Almighty for all he has given to me and to my father,'' he said adding though he was not any pressure but when he went in to bat India had suddenly lost three quick wickets and the team was in a difficult situation,''I am happy that while setting the record I along with Saurav also were involved in a very important partnership.'' Asked how was it having Saurav on the other end while chasing the record, he replied,''it was good and after some time Saurav told me that he was also at the other end when I scored my 35th century (bettering Gavaskar's record) at Delhi.'' He said he was happy that he achieved this distinction before the home crowd and at his home ground (India). ''There is always a feeling of having achieved something special in one's own country.'' Asked if he has any more targets in his mind, Sachin replied, ''I don't play for records but if they happen it is good.'' The master blaster said he some time is surprised to see what is written about him,''I some time myself don't know about the things which are attributed to me in the press. Well people keep on writing what is their opinion but say that I have said it.'' When told that chairman of the selection committee K Srikkanth has said that Sachin should keep playing for another two-three years in the interest of the country, He shot back,''I will keep playing as long as I feel good. I don't need any X Y to tell me how long to play and when to stop. No body told me when to start. And no body can tell me to stop.'' To a query as whether he will like to score 400 in a Test match to equal or better Brian Lara's another record, Sachin replied,''Well I have told you that I don't play for records but if it come my way it is ok.'' He was candid enough to admit that he will not be able to set all sorts of records,''one must know that one can not keep on getting records, one always ends with some unfulfilled records.
''I don't need to prove any thing to any one, I am happy and pleased with my knock today.'' Asked that Greg Chapell has predicted that Ricky Ponting will break this record, the little master said,''all records are meant to be broken. Let us see what happens in future.'' About his best knocks, he said,''I hold my first hundred as very special. Because it also helped us stay afloat against England in that Test.'' About skipper Anil Kumble who had to drop out because of injury he said,''Kumble is a champion bowler. Taking more than 600 wickets is not a easy thing. I have seen him play for last 16/17 years, he is a brave heart and a great cricketer.'' UNI HSB AB KN2035
