Himachal Gets 10,173 MT Foodgrains For Mid-day Meal
New Delhi, Oct 17 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh was given 10,173 tonnes of foodgrains under the mid-day meal scheme by this September, the Human Resource Development Ministry reported today.
India's primary education nutritional support programme is the world's largest, covering 140 million children enrolled in more than a million primary or upper primary schools or education centres.
Its goals: preventing classroom hunger and encouraging enrollment and attendance of children, especially girls and disadvantaged groups, to achieve social and gender equality, it said.
The number of primary and upper primary school children in the State is estimated at 5,00,983 and 3,50,874 respectively, it said.
