Rohtak, Oct 17 (UNI) Baliyana, in this district has achieved the distinction of being the first village in the Haryana where cheques of annual royalty for the acquired land were distributed today to the farmers under the rehabilitation policy of the state government.

The cheques were distributed by Deputy Commissioner R S Doon.

Congratulating the farmers, Mr Doon said that under the policy, the farmers would continue to get not only the amount of royalty at the rate of Rs 15,000 per annum per acre for 33 years but an increase of Rs 500 per annum per acre would also be made in the amount of royalty.

Terming the policy as very useful for the farmers, he asked them to get their accounts opened in banks if they had no bank account. These should be forwarded to the concerned Administrative Officers so that the amount of royalty might be deposited directly in their accounts.

Cheques amounting to over Rs 69.10 lakh were distributed as royalty for the year 2007 to 1386 farmers of village Baliyana. An estimated 5838 kanal and 16 marla of land had been acquired for the Industrial Model Township to be set up. An amount of over Rs 165.17 crore had already been given to the farmers as compensation for their land.

The amount of royalty for the year 2008 would be given to the farmers in January next year.
