Dist govts alone can solve people's problem: Lok Satta
Hyderabad, Oct 17 (UNI) Lok Satta Party President Jayaprakash Narayan today asserted the formation of district governments, envisaged by his party, will open a new chapter in the administrative history of India.
District governments alone would provide an answer to people's problems, irrespective of the region in which they reside, he claimed.
Addressing the party's conference, attended by constituency In- charges and leaders from the districts of Ranga Reddy, Medak, Nalgonda and Mahbubnagar at the party headquarters, he said his party would declare district government headed by a Premier on January 23, the birth anniversary of Subhash Chandra Bose, who stood for empowerment of local governments.
Stating the Lok Satta Party was committted to transferring 50 per cent of funds for development to local governments through district governments, he said it would make a per capita grant of Rs 1,000 to every local body.
He alleged politicians, who concentrated power in the State Capital and ensured it remained in dynastic hands, were more dangerous than terrorists who indulged in occasional bomb attacks.
This is the reason for perpetuation of poverty despite decades of implementation of welfare schemes,he said.
The Lok Satta Party should tell the public that a solution to their problems lay in total restructuring of the political system and not in temporary sops.
The Lok Satta Party President wanted cadres to regard the next three months as crucial and asked them to strengthen the party through its programme 'A day in village'.
Organizational elections by secret ballot at all levels should be completed by December end, he said.
