BSF and TFA in last eight of Governor's Gold Cup

Gangtok, Oct 17 (UNI) Former champions BSF (Jallandhar) and Tata Football Academy (TFA) sailed into the last eight of the 30th All India Governor's Gold Cup here today.

BSF managed to beat local team Sikkim Police by a solitary goal.

Avinash Thapa scored the all important goal in the 26th minute with a flying header.

During their onslaught for an equaliser, Sikkim Police was unlucky when Bir Bahadur Thapa's header crashed into the cross bar and then dropped down into the goalline.

Sikkim Police vehemently claimed the goal but the referee and linesman remained unmoved.

In another match, TFA edged past Railways FC in the tie-breaker after the game ended 1-1 during regulation time.

Three Railways players missed their penalties, handing TFA a 3-0 victory via tie-breaker.

Earlier in the game, TFA had taken the lead in the 39th minute through a fine shot by Robin Singh.

Dinesh Swar equalised for Railways in the third minute of the second half.

TFA now faces Bangladesh XI in the quarterfinals on October 19, while BSF clash with Three Star, Nepal, on October 21.
