Big win for Lucknow Academy
Chandigarh, Oct 17 (UNI) Formidable Punjab and Sind Bank Academy of Jalandhar struggled to beat plucky Mehta Gurukul Hockey Academy of Doraha by 1-0 in a Pool C match of the first Administrator's Challenge Cup Hockey Tournament being conducted by the Chandigarh Sports Department at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here today.
Punjab and Sind Bank had enjoyed an edge over their rivals as they forced seven penalty corners but failed to convert any one. Mehta Gurukul Academy were awarded four penalty corners which they also wasted. The all-important goal was scored by Kanwarpreet Singh who scored a field goal with one minute before the hooter.
Lucknow Hockey Academy showed their skills as they outclassed Amritsar XI by 8-0 in a pool D match.
Dominating throughout the match, Lucknow Academy virtually camped inside the rival territory. They, however, took time to settle down and had to wait for 16 minutes for their first goal which was scored by Amit Prashar. After that Amritsar XI were seen defending their goals. Three minutes later Lucknow Academy got a penalty corner which Amit Prashar converted it with ease. The winners led 2-0 at half time.
Brijesh Kumar scored three goals in the 43rd, 48th and 69th (pc) minutes. Vijay Kumar (44th), Faiz Alam (54th pc) and Ram Prakash (65th) contributed one goal each.
Winners got nine penalty corners and converted three. Amritsar's lone penalty corner award came in the 51st minute which they muffed.
