Activity mapping for devolution of powers will be completed: Aiyer
Puducherry, Oct 17 (UNI) Union Panchayati Raj Minister Manishanker Aiyer today said activity mapping for devolution of powers to the elected local body representatives in Puducherry would be completed soon.
Talking to newspersons during a brief halt here on his way to Myladuthurai this evening, Mr Aiyer said there was provision for funds in Puducherry budget for Panchayats .
However, funds were very meagre and suggested several ideas to Garner funds.
He said Puducherry was not connected with either the State Finance commission or the Union Territory Finance Commission. This caused the financial hardships, he said, adding he would hold discussions with the Union Home Minister and take steps to get funds for Panchayati Raj institutions in Puducherry.
He said Puducherry Chief Minister V Vaithilingam had requested him to set up a National Training Institute for Panchayats in Puducherry. This would be considered. There was no such institute anywhere in the country presently, he added.
