Ranchi, Oct 17 (UNI) The four railway employees abducted yesterday, including the Station Master of McCluskieganj railway station, were yet to be traced even as police continued raids in the jungles of the hilly area today.
In the state capital, police held a high-level departmental meeting, attended by officials of the SP rank and above, to take stock of the situation.
The meeting was understood to have deliberated on the spurt in the Maoist attacks in the state recently, besides law and order situation in the wake of the repeated bomb hoax in the state capital.
Senior police official said the raid was on in the area to trace the abducted railway employees adding they were yet to ascertain the group behind the act.
Yesterday, IG (Probation) S N Pradhan neither confirmed nor denied the hand of the Maoists.
The Jharkhand Liberation Tigers today claimed responsibility, which the police felt might be a publicity stunt of the group.
Early yesterday, about 12 armed people came to the station and ransacked it, about 60 km from here. The area is dominated by Anglo-Indian community.
However, a chowkider, who was among the five initially kidnapped, was released later.
The kidnappers after unleashing terror, held station master Kamal Kishore and four others as hostage and looted cash of Rs 2,395 from the ticket sale counter before decamping.
The police were carrying out raids based on information received from the released chowkider Bhubaneshwar Mahto.
