Chandigarh, Oct 16 (UNI) The Punjab Police has chalked out a plan to settle maximum number of pending cases of compoundable nature, as well as of petty crime that are under trial in various courts at the mega Lok Adalat proposed to be held on December 21 and 22 at Chandigarh.
Presiding over a high level meeting here today, convened by the Crime Wing of the state police to draw out a strategy for disposal of maximum such cases, the DGP N P S Aulakh directed the Superintendents of Police (detective) of all the districts to prepare a detailed list of cases of compoundable nature as per the provisions in section 320 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
Likewise a list of minor offences, traffic violation challans and other crimes which they deem fit for settling in the Lok Adalat should also be prepared.
The lists should be submitted at the state headquarters in two weeks. Another meeting, on October 30, would be held here to discuss the list of cases prepared for settlement in the Lok Adalat.
The DGP directed the police officers to call on their respective District and Sessions Judges for the mega Lok Adalat. They should also convene a meeting of SHOs and Investigation Officers to issue necessary directions for required preparation of the list of cases.
The police chief asked the field officers for details of heinous crimes taking place in their respective areas and also sought status report on such cases in a week.
Mr J P Birdi, ADGP (Crime) explained to the field officers the procedure to be followed for taking up cases in the proposed Lok Adalat.
