New Delhi, Oct 16 (UNI) The Noida Police, in its counter-affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, has denied the allegations of tarnishing the image of Dr Rajesh Talwar and his friends in the Aarushi-Hemraj murder case and still maintains that Dr Talwar was arrested only after collection of sufficient prima facie evidence against him.

According to the affidavit filed by ASP, Noida, Akhilesh Kumar, before the apex court, the Noida Police has carried out the investigation in accordance with the law and Dr Talwar was arrested on May 23.

The Noida Police said the media was briefed only to save the reputation of the Talwars from being maligned due to speculation in the media.

The police has denied the allegations of petitioner Dr Surat Singh that the police and media have ruined the reputation of the Talwars and their family friends.

According to Gautam Buddha Nagar Police, the briefing done by the then IG, Meerut Range, Gurcharan Singh, on May 23, announcing the arrest of Dr Rajesh Talwar was based on the briefings of the then SSP, Noida.

Interestingly, the Noida Police still maintains that Dr Talwar was not arrested without sufficient prima facie evidence, showing his involvement in the crime. The police have further asserted that Hemraj, whose body was recovered from the roof of the Talwars' flat, was named as the main suspect by Dr Talwar.

Aarushi, a 14-year-old minor girl and student of ninth standard of DPS, Noida, was murdered on May 15.

The counter-affidavit is in response to the PIL seeking some guidelines for the media and police so that the reputation of innocent people could be protected.

The CBI, to whom the investigation was transferred, has also drawn a blank in solving the most sensational double murder and all the four accused in the case, including Dr Talwar and three domestic servants have been granted bail by the court due to the failure of the CBI to collect evidence against any of them.
