MHAA urges Barnala to ensure stoppage of killings in Lanka

Chennai, Oct, 16 , (UNI) The Office Bearers of the Madras High Court Advocates Association (MHAA) today presented a memorandum to Tamil Nadu Governor S S Barnala, urging him to appeal to the Union Government to stop the killings of Tamils in Sri Lanka.

MHAA President R C Paul Kanagaraj and General Secretary Velmurugan, among other office-bearers, met the Private Secretary to the Governor at Raj Bhavan here and handed over the memorandum to him, since Mr Barnala was out of station.

Earlier, thousands of MHAA members took out a procession in the city and shouted slogans against the Sri Lankan President Mahenda Rajapakse's ''dictatorial tendencies on the Lankan Tamils issue.'' The lawyers burnt the effigy of Mr Rajapakse before Raj Bhavan.

Mr Kanagaraj said the association members will observe a fast tomorrow in the city.
