Bengaluru, Oct 16: Congress MLA for Sarvagnanagar, K J George, has urged Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa not to alter the design of the six stations of Metro Rail coming up in various parts of the City. In a letter, he said the design for the six stations were finalised after several rounds of consultations with tech expert RITES and architect fraternity of Bangalore, besides public opinion.

The designs were conceived to reflect the growing public aura of Bangalore as an international city and to restore the beauty of Bangalore central business district. Special attention was given to ensure the aesthetics of the M G Road station which is above ground level, as it is a heritage site. According to the original plan, all stations were to have distinct, unique architectural features. So any change should be conveyed to the public for their consent, he insisted.

Stressing that future development needs should take precedence over cost factor, the MLA cautioned that quality control was another important aspect to avoid criticism that the Bangalore International Airport is facing. He also batted for a mono rail project as a feeder service people living in outlying areas whom Metro Rail will not cover.
