Madurai: Workers not given benefits
Madurai, Oct 16: Applications seeking benefits worth Rs 2 crore under the Madurai Manual Workers" Welfare Board were pending for want of funds, according to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions.
In a statement, the Madurai urban CITU secretary, B. Vikraman, said that the applications submitted in 2007 were not cleared as the State Government had not released the funds. A CITU meeting condemned the officials of the Labour Department for allegedly not disbursing benefits due to the members under the Construction Workers" Welfare Board even after 15 days of receiving Rs 5 lakh from the State Government.
