Chennai, Oct 16 (UNI) The South Indian Film Artistes Association representing Kollywood, the Tamil film industry, will observe a day's fast on November one here to condemn the killing of innocent Tamils by the Sri Lankan army.
The two super stars of Kollywood, Kamal Hassan and Rajnikanth will also participate in the fast.
The Tamil film industry had first given a call for a massive demonstration at Rameswaram on October 19 and three-day shut down from November 18 to 20.
Association's President, actor-politician Sarat Kumar and General Secretary, actor Radha Ravi who addressed a meeting at which the decision to hold the agitation at Chennai was also taken, said the change was was to enable the artistes, who could not go to Rameswaram, who were participating in film shootings out of the state or abroad, to participate in the stir.
''Several artistes are involved in shooting states outside Tamil Nadu and abroad. Some of them could not make it to the October 19 meeting at Rameswaram. Hence the fast in Chennai on November one'', Mr Sarathkumar told reporters.
Expressing full support to the October 19 demonstration at Rameswaram, he said the artistes could participate in both the agitations, organised to exert pressure on the Centre to take steps to bring a halt to the alleged genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka.
To a question, Mr Saratkumar said both Kamal Hassan and Rajnikanth would participate in the fast to be held at the premises of the South Indian Film Chambers.
He also appealed to all the artistes to participate in the agitation here and in Rameswaram to espouse the cause of Tamils, appeal to the Centre to stop any assistance to the Lankan government and act on the demands put forth in the resolutions passed at the All Party meeting convened by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi here two days ago.
