JD(S) to support Cong in K'taka Council polls

Bangalore, Oct 16 (UNI) The Janata Dal(Secular) today decided to extend support to Congress candidates in the October 31 byelections to three Karnataka Legislative Council seats from Local Authorities.

Party state general secretary Y S V Datta, in a release said the decision to support Congress candidates was taken after JDLP leader and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy held discussion with Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president R V Deshapande.

Stating that the decision to back the Congress candidates was taken to a avoid split in secular votes, he said JD(S) candidates, who filed their nomination papers to the three seats were instructed to withdraw from contest.
