Mumbai, Oct 16 (UNI) Indian women cricket team skipper Jhulan Goswami heads the bowlers ranking in the Reliance Mobile ICC Women's cricket ODI ranking announced here today.
The top ranking among allroudners went to Lisa Sthalekar of Australia, while the top batter was Claire Taylor of England.
Goswami, who was ICC international women cricketer of the year last year, told newsmen at a press conference held by ICC and Reliance Mobile here that the ranking would give a boost to women's cricket the world over and enable the best performers get better recognition.
Indian prolific scorer Mithali Raj is placed second among the batters list which also has Jaya Sharma in the 13th spot and Anjum Chopra in the 15th spot among top 20 players.
While none of the Indian players find place among the top five all-rounders, Rumeli Dhar, Amita Sharma and Neetu David have been ranked 12th, 13th and 14th respectively.
Releasing the rankings, ICC General Manager-Cricket, David Richardson said ICC believed that great progress had been made in the development of the women's game since the merger of International Women's cricket Counil with ICC in 2005. ''through the development of the Reliance Mobile ICC Player Rankings, we hope to bring added profile to the leading stars in the women's game, as part of our long term commitment to rowing the sport across the globe'' he added.
He said with tournaments such as ICC women's world cup and the ICC World Twenty20 providing an exciting opportunity to bring increased attention to the game's top players, there has never been a more exciting time in the history of Women's cricket.
