Election petition against Amarinder Singh

Chandigarh, Oct 16 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Rajive Bhalla today fixed November 10 for further hearing on the petition filed against the election of former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh to Punjab Legislative Assembly in February 2007 general elections from Patiala City constituency.

Before this, the counsel for Amarinder Singh informed that a fine of Rs 2000 was imposed on the respondent at the time of previous hearing, for delay in submitting reply to the petition, had been deposited.

The counsel also filed the reply to the points raised by the petitioner Sukhbeer Singh, a voter from the constituency who has challenged the return of Amarinder Singh alleging corrupt practices.

The petition preferred against Singh's election in 2002 general elections from the same constituency too, is being re-heard by justice Satish Kumar Mittal after the same was remanded back by the Supreme Court on appeal by petitioner Harkirat Singh , also a voter from the constituency.

Justice Surinder Singh Nijjar, now the Chief Justice of Kolkata High Court, had dismissed the petition but on appeal the apex court called for its re-hearing.

Justice Bhalla gave three weeks to the counsel for the petitioner to file the replication to the response submitted by the respondent.
