New Delhi, Oct 16 (UNI) Over 100 crew members of the Jet Airways, who have been laid off by the private air-carrier, today converged at the domestic airport here to lodge their protest over their sudden termination from the service.
They were agitated that no official had come out to meet them.
'' We have been calling them, but nobody is taking our calls.
They are being most irresponsible. At the time of our induction, Mr Naresh Goyal (Chairman, Jet Airways) had assured us that we were like family members. Is this how you treat your family member?'' asked an agitated member Rahul, who had been waiting for about three hours outside the office.
Another crew member lamented that he did not see how he would repay the Rs 25 lakh loan he had taken for his studies. '' I have mortgaged our family home for the loan. My sister's wedding is due next month and I was saving up for the occasion. Now what do I do?'' Payal (name changed on request), a flight stewardess said she got to know about the termination from television. ''Is this how you treat your employees'. If there was a problem, they could slash the salaries of the CEO and other top officials and retain us. Throwing us out like this is being very inhuman.'' The Jet had laid off 800 employees on Tuesday due to mounting losses and said it would go in for further pruning as a means to cut down costs. This move has come just a day after it agreed to operational tie-up with Vijay Mallya's Kingfisher Airlines.
