Chandigarh thrashes Hyderabad in Challenge cup
Chandigarh, Oct 16 (UNI) Chandigarh Hockey Academy of the Chandigarh Administration, thrashed Hyderabad Hockey Academy by 16-0 after leading by 8-0 at half time in the inaugural Group B match of the first edition of the Administrator's Challenge Cup Hockey Tournament at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here today.
The CHA boys played an attacking hockey throughout the match.
They virtually faced no resistance for their rivals. The hosts opened their account in the second minute.
Gurjinder Singh sent a forward pass inside the dee and Gagandeep connected it in a smooth action.
Gagandeep went on to score in the 8th, 21st, 24th minutes for his individual tally to four.
The other goal-getters for for CHA were Gurjinder (4th, penalty corner, 40th penalty stroke, 54th PC), Bikramjeet (26th, 27th, 43rd), Danandeep (41st, 50th, 53rd), Baljit (14th), Abhijit (42nd) and Gurjant (49th).
The second match between Surjit Hockey Academy of Jalandhar and Hockey Academy of Gurgaon in Group A could not be played as the latter hav withdrawn from the competition.
Kurukshetra SAI Hockey Academy have also pulled out at the last moment on the plea that they would be taking part in the Haryana State Championship.
Earlier, Adviser to the Chandigarh Administrator Pradip Mehra inaugurated the tournament which carries cash prizes of Rs 50,000 to the winners and Rs 25,000 to the runners-up team.
