Lucknow, Oct 16 (UNI) The Ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has strongly reacted on the statement of Congress regarding threat for preventing UP Chief Minister and BSP national president Mayawati from India's tour.

Terming the statement as irresponsible and unconstitutional, BSP state president Swami Prasad Maurya said here that the Congress threat would provoke BSP and its workers unnecessarily and should be avoided by the congress workers as it can have serious repercussions.

''Before doing such unthoughtful act, the Congress workers and leaders should know and understand that the country is not their private property,'' he commented.

The Congress should also remember that Ms Mayawati symbolised the pride of crores of downtrodden people of this country and this section would not tolerate any dent in her honour, the BSP leader added.

Mr Maurya in a statement issued here today said Congress people being frustrated due to their shrinking mass base were issuing such baseless and disgraceful statements. He said the Congress party was responsible for non development in Uttar Pradesh as it had ruled the Centre and the state for a long time.

He said the Congress, who considered the development of only Rae Bareli, Amethi and Sultanpur districts as the development of entire UP, should be asked that how many industries had been set up in Poorvanchal and Bundelkhand by the Congress led-UPA government.

Refuting allegation of Congress spokesperson regarding atrocities on Dalits, poor and deprived sections, Mr Maurya said before raising finger on UP government, he should see the atrocities on Dalits, poor and deprived sections in the Congress ruled states. The BSP was concerned for the welfare of Dalits, poor and deprived sections in UP, he added.

The BSP state president said Congress should give account for what had been done for Dalits, poor and deprived sections in 60 years after independence, despite its rule at the Centre and state for a long period. Had Congress been the true well-wisher of these sections, there would have been considerable improvement in their condition, he charged.

Giving suggestion to the Congress leaders for making mass base by their works among people, instead of issuing such cheap statements, BSP spokesperson said in its absence the Congress had to compromise with SP, whose leaders had made disgraceful remarks on the National President of the Congress.
