Puducherry, Oct 16 (UNI) The Puducherry unit of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Pondicherry University today entered into an agreement for the implementation of Integrated Communication Network in the University campus.
Talking to newspersons here, Puducherry University Vice-Chancellor J A K Tareen said the university was the first in the country to get the facility and information would be available to the students through wireless digital communications.
The project cost was Rs two crore and the facility would be available in another three months, he added.
Prof Tareen said the university was planning to provide laptops at free of cost to the physically and visually-challenged students.
A tie-up would be established with a manufacturing company soon to provide lap-tops at an affordable cost.
BSNL General Manager Marshal Leo Anthony said optical cable was laid in the university campus, covering 16 km and an integrated communication facility would also be available in the university hostels.
Earlier, BSNL Deputy General Manager Robert Ravi and Registrar of the University, Loganathan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Wify Wireless Digital Internet connections between the departments and also between the students and teachers.
