Woollens out in Jammu after heavy rains
Jammu, Oct 15 (UNI) Chilling winter today made its presence felt in Jammu with heavy rains lashing the entire region since morning, forcing people to put on woolens for the first time this season.
It was raining with thunders and lightening since last night in the mountainous parts of the region while the winter capital city also received first winter showers in the early hours, dipping the mercury down to the shivering point.
Till 0830 hrs, minimum 1 mm rainfall was recorded in Jammu city while maximum 18.2 mm rainfall was registered in Banihal area on the Valley side of longest Jawahar Tunnel in Ramban district, the Met sources told UNI.
Trikuta hills of famous cave shrine of Mata Vaishnodevi also received heavy showers in the morning. ''Katra town of Vaishnodevi shrine received 8.1 mm rainfall till 0830 hrs,'' official sources said, asserting that a very sharp fall in the temperature was also observed at Bhawan and Bharion Ghati sites.
People were seen wearing jackets and pullovers to prevent themselves from sudden climatic change.
However, life remained normal despite rains and chill in the City of Temples.
