Sikkim Police defeats Darjeeling in Gold Cup

Gangtok, Oct 15 (UNI) Sikkim Police scampered past Darjeeling Gorkha Hil Council (DGHC) 2-0 to move into the pre-quarterfinal stage of the 30th All India Governor's Gold Cup being played here at Paljor Stadium here today.

Sikkim Police striker Bir Bahadur Pradhan scored a brace in the 74th and 78th minutes to secure a victory for his team.

Sikkim Police went into the match as favourites and dominated the match proceedings from word go.

However, the policemen had to wait until the 74th minute to draw first blood when its striker Bir Bahadur Pradhan volleyed a cross into the rival's net (1-0).

Pradhan netted his second goal four minutes later (2-0).

With today's victory, Sikkim Police now faces former Gold Cup champions BSF (Jhalandar) in the pre-quarterfinals on October 17.

In another match today, Railways overcame Punjab Police through tie-breaker after the match ended in a goalless draw. Rohit from Punjab Police shot his penalty over the crosspiece, handing the Railways 5-4 victory in the shoot out.

Railways would now face Tata Football Academy in the pre-quarterfinals on October 17.
