Nanao, Sunil Sadhu enter semis with easy wins in boxing

Pune, Oct 15 (UNI) Nanao Singh Thokchom and Sunil Sadhu kept India in the hunt for medals in the boxing arena with both of them winning their quarterfinal bouts in the Light Flyweight (48 kgs) and Flyweight (51 kgs) categories respectively on the fourth day of the Commonwealth Youth Games being held at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports City, Balewadi here today.

Sunil Sadhu was simply unstoppable in his bout against Peter Shula of Zambia, battering him to win 16-0 on points and book a place in the semifinals.

Sunil, another boxer from the Bhiwani stable, started off with a flurry of punches to go ahead 6-0 in the first round itself.

Subsequently he found no challenge from the Zambian boxer taking 3, 4 and 3 points respectively in the next three rounds to win 16-0 and book his semifinal place.

In the Light Flyweight (48 kg) category, Nanao Singh also asserted his superiority over his rival Thomas Stubbs of England, building up a two point lead after the first round winning that round 3-1.

The next two rounds saw Nanao at his best as he caught his English opponent off guard on more than one occasion winning both the rounds 5-1 and 6-2 on points. The last round once again showed the Indian in superb form as he took 3 points to one of his opponent to win the match on points at 17 against 5 and book his place in the semis.
