Dubai, Oct 15 : After a successful trial during the last India-Sri Lanka Test series, the ICC Board yesterday met here to discuss the umpire decision review system in Tests. Among other issues on agenda of the two-day meeting are Future Tours Programme (FTP) post-2012 and fresh dates in 2009 for the postponed ICC Champions Trophy.
"If it deems its appropriate, the Board will nominate four series for further trials of umpire decision review system - between now and the next meeting of the ICC's Cricket Committee - due to take place in April-May next year," The News quoted ICC as saying in a statement.
According to the paper, the idea of further trials would be to provide exposure to the system for as many match referees, umpires and players as possible before arriving at a decision on whether it should be implemented permanently.
With current FTP finishing in May 2012, ICC Board will discuss further concept of alternative structure to bilateral tours, including possibility of an enhanced Test championship.
ICC Chief Executive will present an option to ICC Board on how Champions Trophy, postponed from Sept 2008, can be slotted into FTP in 2009, said the paper.
