Distribute NREGA wages through banks/post offices: Raghuvansh
New Delhi, Oct 15 (UNI) Union Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh has stressed upon enabling NREGA wage distribution through institutional accounts of wage earners in banks/post offices.
Dr Singh raised the demand during a recent review meeting of his ministry here.
Interestingly, sustained efforts of his ministry have resulted in the unprecedented scale of financial inclusion of NREGA wage workers. By mid-September, as many as 4.22 crore institutional accounts of NREGA workers had been opened in banks and post offices and Rs 3454 crore disbursed as wages, which is around 40 per cent of total wages disbursed.
Besides showing a tremendous stride towards achievement of transparency, another significant step is making toll-free helpline operational at the Central level. With the system in place, people from all over India have started using it. Within one and a half months, 155 complaints and queries have been received.
