Dharamshala, Oct 14 (UNI) Thousands of Tibetans gathered at the Tsuglagkhang, the main temple at McLeodganj, offered prayers this morning for the families affected in the recent earthquake that struck Gyaldar township of Dhamshung county and neighbouring areas west of Lhasa.
China's official Xinhua news agency had reported that the 6.6-magnitude earthquake that hit the region on October 6, had left ten people dead and 34 injured, besides causing heavy damage to property.
Today's special mass prayer organised by the Tibetan Solidarity Committee was presided over by the senior monks of Namgyal Monastery.
The speaker, deputy speaker and members of the standing committee of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, secretaries of the department of the Central Tibetan Administration attended the mass prayer.
While addressing the prayer congregation, Speaker Karma Chophel hoped that the prayers would bring solace and relief to all those who were affected by the earthquake.
The regional solidarity committees were taking the initiative to observe synchronised prayer sessions in every Tibetan community across the world, he added.
The Tibetan temporal head the Dalai Lama had offered prayers on October 7 for the quake victims.
