Renowned people figure in Vision Group

Bangalore, Oct 14 (UNI) Noted personalities from Information Technology, Environment and Politics figure in the Vision Group formed by the Karnataka Government today to prepare a blueprint for 'Karnataka 2020' vision document aimed at overall development of the state.

The Members of the group, with Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa being the Chairman, included Infosys Co-Chairman Nandan Nilenkeni, NIPFP Director Dr M Govind Rao, noted Environmentalist A N Yellappareddy, social worker and Karuna Trust Secretary Dr H Sudarshan and Dr R Balasubramanium, Founder President of Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement.

The terms reference of the 21-member 'Vision Group' includes providing inputs to enable the state to finalise and implement the 'Vision 2020' document, to provide guidance on the strategies, programmes, performance across different sectors based on an external perspective and to monitor initiatives and actions taken up to achieve the vision, according to a Government release.

Mr Yeddyurappa, who also holds Finance portfolio, in his budget speech had stressed the need to take the state to top position from the present rank of seventh among the major states in the country.

The vision of the Government was to put Karnataka on top of the developed states in the country, he added.

The State Planning Board was preparing a draft of the Vision Document 'Karnataka 2020' and the blueprint was aimed at achieving the total eradication of poverty, eliminating regional imbalances in the state, upgrading the facilities for an orderly and comfortable life for the people in both rural and urban areas and promoting social and economic equality in the state.
