One-day Taxi-Autorickshaw Bandh from midnight of Oct 15
Mumbai, Oct 14 (UNI) More than three lakh Taxi and Autorickshaw drivers in the Metropolis will observe a one-day strike from tomorrow midnight to protest the government's proposal to scrap 25-year old taxis.
Addressing newspersons here this evening, the Mumbai Rickshaw-Taximen union leader Sharad Rao alleged that the scrapping of taxis older than 25 years is a part of conspiracy between the bureaucrats in the Transport department and the president of the Bombay Taximan's A L Quadros and others.
Mr Rao said more than 30,000 such taxis will be scrapped in the next one-and-half year, he added.
On October 16, thousands of taxi and autorickshawmen will march to Transport Commissioner's office at Bandra and demonstrate against the decision.
A delegation will also meet the deputy Chief Minister R R Patil and transport minister Hasan Mushrif on the same day, he added.
