Chandigarh, Oct 14 (UNI) Punjab Forest and Wild Life Preservation Minister Tikshan Sood has stressed the need for developing 'Green Buildings' to conserve energy through consuming natural resources.
"In view of rapid urbanisation and increasing population, there is a need to develop standards to ensure conformity to the safety requirement and new technologies for the construction and operation of intelligent and sustainable buildings," the minister said while delivering his inaugural address in a seminar on 'Intelligent and Sustainable Buildings' organised by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on the occasion of World Standards Day here today.
"The construction of government as well as private buildings in the country needs standardisation, and Bureau of Indian Standards has played a commendable role in formulating standards not only to ensure basic quality and safety requirements but also the incorporation of technologies for the construction of green buildings," he said.
The Minister stressed upon the need to develop standards for these buildings, which are consumer-friendly and cost effective besides facilitating coordination among builders, contractors, engineers and architects.
Around 200 people from industry, government and non-government organisations participated in the seminar.
